Proprio is a surgical technology startup building Paradigm, an AI-powered platform, for spine surgery. Picasso expands Paradigm’s surgeon-controlled registration workflow, which creates a digital recreation of vertebrae for performing surgical tasks. Picasso enables surgeons to tell the Paradigm system what is the vertebral surface for registering a vertebra by tracing bone using a handheld probe and foot pedal.
I and my design partner redesigned the vertebra registration workflow. I partnered closely with the engineering and usability teams to ship a smooth experience with hardware, software, and audio components. Since Picasso's debut, I lead design enhancements for two additional sustaining software releases.
Designing Picasso involved orchestrating a cohesive experience for spine surgeons and clinical specialists with multiple hardware components, a visible screen, and audio feedback while maintaining the efficiency of the surgical procedure.
I and my co-designer redesigned the vertebra registration experience — encompassing of data capture controlled by a foot pedal and enhanced with visual and audio components — to maximize user control and efficiency.
